At Tiny Ass Ranch, our miniature donkeys aren’t just livestock — they’re family. And when one of our donkeys leaves our ranch, our greatest hope is that they’re heading to a loving, permanent home where they’ll be cherished for the rest of their lives.

Miniature donkeys are incredibly intelligent, affectionate, and emotionally complex animals. They recognize their people, form deep bonds, remember experiences, and thrive on companionship and consistency. Bringing a donkey home isn’t just adding another animal to your pasture — it’s welcoming a new member of your family, often for 30 years or more!

Why We Require an Adoption Contract

We require a signed adoption contract for every miniature donkey leaving our ranch. This isn’t about making the adoption process complicated. It’s about making sure our donkeys receive the lifelong care, companionship, and commitment they deserve.

Our adoption contract outlines our expectations for proper housing, nutrition, veterinary and hoof care, companionship, and responsible ownership. It also helps ensure that if circumstances ever change, our donkeys won’t end up neglected, passed from home to home, or in an uncertain situation.

We understand that life happens, but we believe every donkey deserves someone willing to make their well-being a priority.

Two Asses Are Better Than One!

Donkeys are highly social herd animals, and companionship isn’t optional — it’s essential to their emotional well-being.

We require every donkey adopted from our ranch to have at least one other donkey companion. While donkeys may bond with horses, goats, or other livestock, those animals aren’t a substitute for the companionship of their own kind.

Donkeys form incredibly strong friendships, often becoming deeply attached to their pasture buddies. Separating bonded donkeys can cause significant stress and anxiety.

For this reason, our geldings are sold in pairs, unless an appropriate donkey companion arrangement has been specifically approved by our ranch.

Why We Love Geldings!

If you’re looking for affectionate, entertaining, and loyal pasture companions, geldings are hard to beat!

Geldings are castrated male donkeys, and they often make the very best family pets. Without the hormonal behaviors associated with intact jacks, geldings are generally more predictable, easier to manage, and less prone to territorial or breeding-related behaviors.

They’re often wonderfully playful, curious, affectionate, and eager to interact with their people. And because they’re not intended for breeding, their only job is to be loved, spoiled, and occasionally cause a little harmless mischief!

Of course, every donkey has its own personality, but for families looking for companion animals rather than breeding stock, we almost always recommend geldings.

A Lifetime Commitment, Not Just a Purchase

We put a tremendous amount of love, time, and care into raising our miniature donkeys. We don’t expect every adopter to know everything about donkeys, but we do expect them to be willing to learn and provide the care these remarkable animals deserve.

Our goal isn’t simply to find homes for our donkeys. It’s to find the right homes, for life.
